About

Tom Xylander is a self-taught artist, who has experimented not only in painting but also in graphics, with techniques such as engraving. He recently ventured into photography.

Born on November 5, 1966 in Munich, Germany. Between the years 1983 and 1987, parallel to his professional studies as a landscape designer, Tom began to be interested in artistic drawing and painting, in order to start his first activities in art in a self-taught way. In 1995, the artist makes his first exhibition in Mexico, which includes photography and artistic drawing works. It's in the year of 1998, he meets the Oaxacan engraver and painter Miguel Alvarado who is a Professor at the renowned San Carlos Academy and joins "Steel & Stone", his graphic arts workshop.

Since then, Xylander directed his artistic language to graphics and painting, and began to learn the various engraving techniques such as xylography, lithography, linography and colography, the latter being one of the most representative of the workshop. It's here that Tom Xylander carried out all his graphic production until 2010, when the workshop moved to Oaxaca.

In 2014 he ventured into photography, working on projects that have been exhibited in different galleries, for example, a series with which he has captured the essence of subcultures in Mexico.

In addition to taking his work to different parts of the world with exhibitions in Germany, Serbia, the United States, Cuba, and Mexico, among others, he has also collaborated with different workshops such as the"Screen printing and Art Workshop 75 Degrees" (Mexico City) and the "Artistic Printing Workshop Blanc" (Munich). This trajectory has allowed his work to be awarded and recognized with collaborations in publications such as art magazines.

Currently, Xylander continues his path in art experimenting with other techniques within graphics and painting.
